The BDS Venting Technology is a single strip layer of a material that is different from the inner layer of the packaging that is used to form a weaker lamination between layers. Due to the relative difference in the bonding strength between layers of the same materials (at the edges) and layers of different materials (at the place the strip is inserted) the packaging would rupture at the weaker lamination due to the increase of the internal pressure. The significant advantages of the BDS technology are:
- It is versatile in its configuration via: it is available in 3 side sealed, centred sealed; gusset sealed; stand-up pouch; roll stock and top lidding films.
- Because it is a completely sealed pouch the food manufacturer can vacuum the pouch for longer shelf life of frozen products compared to technologies that use perforation or predetermine holes which cannot be vacuumed. BDS with its completely sealed pouch will not introduce contamination or water vapor into the food. This will make the food soggy and packaging messy when microwaved.
- The BDS strip will only release the pressurized steam upon microwaving once the food contained within is reheated or cook without the problem of hotspots.
